3 days in a row without basketball *sigh* What else can I say?
I've been missing quite a lot of world cup matches lately. I managed to watch one the other day. Paraguay v Japan. And what do you know? It was the most boring game since that Brazil v Portugal. Don't get me wrong, I'm Brazil's biggest fan. Not only the game, the former, was boring, but it ended up with a penalty shoot out. If it was 15 years ago, sure, I love penalty shoot out. Now, it's just cruel and lame. It's ok with me if they drew 3 all or 2 all, but it was nil nil. I fell asleep before 2nd extra time started and I'm not complaining.
I rooted (is this word right?) for Japan, but they were playing with a lil less ambition that evening. Well, at least except for that Honda guy. He was said to be the quickest man to be fouled, that ought to say something. Anyhoo, someone had to lose, and I guess it was them that night.
Adding to my rant, Katy Perry's california girl is stuck at the back of my head now. To be honest, I could use some of those freshly pierced girls (ok explicit content, kids close your eyes now!). Nah, I'm just kidding. I like me self some country girls, yeehaw!! haha I'm still kidding. I prefer barang buatan Malaysia. It's all about the home grown.
Seriously, do you really think I'm that disgusting? I'm not that disrespectful. Objectifying women is a thing of the past. Barbaric to be exact. Although regretfully is not uncommon nowadays. From the words of the slightly wise, 'What's going on with the world, mama? People livin' like they ain't got no mama.'
Right, this the actual reason for this post haha. I found this on yesterday's paper.
Read here.
The main issue in the article is manners in general (obviously!), but I like to stress, again, on what she say about smiling.(By now, I'm starting to think that I'm a bit obsessive bout this issue *freaking out*) It's true what she said that malaysian don't smile much. Although to me, it's easier to smile at strangers sometimes than it is to your friends. You know, with all the complication of relationship, feelings and emotion. I mean, it's just a common courtesy. Get this, frequently received feedback when I smile to people, my friends especially, 'Ha, Wan! Apehal senyum-senyum?' I know I'm a bit sarcastic or cynical at times, but that doesn't mean I'm always a bad human being, sheeesh. haha.
I'll just stop at that. When it comes to manner, I'm honestly a bit retarded myself, especially around old folks. Minta maaf ye pak cik, mak cik hehe. On a slightly different point, I don't want the posts to be too long. Usually the posts are either about facts or just some personal stuff. If I write too long about facts, I'm afraid I might get it wrong and if I write too long about myself, I'm afraid you might get it wrong.
The tittle? It just eases my stress a bit x)
my heart stopped when I read this... hoping and knowing for sure it's not real and alhamdulillah, you clarified it in the next paragraph *sigh of relief*. very interesting way to capture people's attention I must say, although, you could cause someone to go into cardiac arrest before managing to read the next paragraph.
as for smiling..."Although to me, it's easier to smile at strangers sometimes than it is to your friends. You know, with all the complication of relationship, feelings and emotion." This statement is true for a lot of people, yours truly included, alhough it is not how things are supposed to be because it is to those close to our hearts that we should smile to more often right? I guess it's something we have to learn to do, despite it's awkwardness becuase it would be the right thing to do. Perhaps we can learn from mujahid when it comes to smiling because that fella always has a smile whenever you see him, whether when he's with friends or with strangers. I guess the first part of Oscar Wilde's words "Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go," fits him like a glove, masya Allah.
My mum always tells me that the first you should do when you wake up in the morning is to smile to the people you live with. I love it when my mum smiles and greets me 'good morning' when I wake up, notwithstanding, to my own dismay, my inability to follow in her footsteps. I think also that smiling is of paramount importance especially when you are married because it has an extraordinary power to mend and enhance the relationship with your spouse and children. Maybe it's time we actually start acting out what we are reflecting on here. =)
let me end with a beautiful hadith which is very much related to this issue of manners and smiling:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Charity is prescribed for each descendant of Adam every day the sun rises." He was then asked: "From what do we give charity every day?" The Prophet answered: "The doors of goodness are many...enjoining good, forbidding evil, removing harm from the road, listening to the deaf, leading the blind, guiding one to the object of his need, hurrying with the strength of one's legs to one in sorrow who is asking for help, and supporting the feeble with the strength of one's arms--all of these are charity prescribed for you." He also said: "Your smile for your brother is charity." - Fiqh-us-Sunnah, Volume 3, Number 98
p/s: rooted is a word. also, keep up the good quality writing... very enjoyable
But, yeah, thanks for that sharing. All praise due to Him. x)
Abu Dharr RA narrated, the Messenger SAW said,"...the words alhamdulillah is a charity; the words subhanallah is a charity; the words La ilaha illallah is a charity; the words Allahuakbar is a charity; enjoining the good is a charity; detaining from evil is a charity. And ad-Dhuha prayer of 2 units substitutes all of these." Muslim
Therefore, we should strive to make solat Dhuha whenever possible. =)
